My whirlwind tour of Italy is coming to a close! when i booked this journey, i was too excited to do the math and realize that i would be traveling for 24 hours to get out here, and close to the same for the way home… but, its all been well worth it!
i have to say- i am oh-so-proud of my cousin (cugina?), Stephanie – you can SEE how much she has grown in the past four months of living in Firenze, Italia! (and that’s hard to do, when you are already 6’1”!… okay, you know what i mean by “grown!”!)
Steph was such a good tour guide, and it was so fun to see the city through her eyes and experience! it was also so great to spend time with my other cousin, Angela – Steph’s sister. i loved all the Italian words she taught me too– as you can see in the title. she kept saying, “Cosa?” and finally i asked, “Cosa means, what?” to which she answered, “yes”… and from there we had our own “Who’s on First” for a bit, until she told me that the Itailian word, “Cosa” translates to “What”… ah, gotcha!
i promise to post photos soon – but right now i am sitting in my hotel room in ROMA – where they kindly provide a laptop and internet! whoo hoo! i am here alone – as the cousins flew to Greece today for another week of travel. i will head back to The States tomorrow, and continue on with the Fun Times With The Becker’s Madness, that i have truly and completely missed these past few days!
right now, i am chatting with AJ on Facebook (7hr time difference allows for this, of course!) and he’s telling me how THOR misses me and is pretty dispondent… Lucy, on the other hand, doesn’t even notice i am gone. ha!
anyway- back to ROMA! i arrived around 5pm, and got settled – thanks to Steph, she helped me find a hotel that is literally across the street from the train station – so that is perfecto! when i got here, they said i had one of the biggest rooms– i would hate to see a small room… i am picturing a twin bed and walls… but, this room is great- and yea for the private bathroom and INTERNET! whoo!!!
so then i headed out- i grabbed the gratis map that mostly advertises the local bar crawls- would be a blast, if i had more time – but my goal was to make it to the Trevi Fountain!!! my most favorite place on earth! it has been eight years since i have been here- and it was fun to try and dust off my photographic memory a bit!
i set off– and had to find my bearings, but also try to LOOK like i knew what i was doing! walked a TON and fast– sorry tootsies– and found myself getting closer and closer to what i remember to be the Emmanuel Monument (Brooke, i took a picture for you!) which i remembered to be very near the Forum ruins and also the Coliseum. SCORE.
i took photos, and decided, that’s all i really had time for today– i wanted to get through as much as possible before night-fall — because, i am alone in Rome — and i am a paranoid DORK! but, it was awesome.
so after i snapped a good shot of the Coliseum and didn’t see Russel Crowe anywhere in site, i turned on my heel and headed back toward what i thought was the direction to the Trevi Fountain… i found some American-ish looking people and followed them for a bit, and, though they thought i was stalking them, i think, they actually brought me right to the Trevi Fountain!
i could tell, once i saw all the vendors selling useless crap and Americanized pizza and ice cream.
i grabbed a slice of pizza and found a seat. i sat there for about an hour- heaven. then i walked over to what i remembered to be my favorite gellateria in Roma – and, was instead greeted by a not so nice dude serving the gelato… however, the nutella and tiramisu concoction was to die for, so i left a happy donna! and, i was able to figure out the way home effortlessly– yippee for me!
it was about 8pm and i just wasn’t ready to call it a night, so i walked around the Termini Train Station for about an hour – going through the shops and enjoying life!
now, i am going to try and fall asleep – and TRY to wake up to my 6am alarm… on to another day of travel!
YEA FOR EXPERIENCING THE WORLD! YEA FOR GOING HOME TO MY PUPPIES AND LOVE!
